Baillie Scott Cottage

Baillie Scott Cottage

Baillie Scott Cottage luxury holiday house is a wonderfully restored, luxury Arts and Crafts-style cottage in the wing of Sandford House, an impressive B-listed Baille Scott designed house in the heart of Fife, close to both Dundee and St Andrews.

This stylish two-bedroom cottage is packed full of character. The owners, Evelyn and Ralph, have made a fantastic job of the Art and Crafts inspired refurbishment. The conversion boasts (along with its sister cottage next door), oak beams and posts, leaded windows and William Morris wallpaper.

Stylish and upmarket interiors are complemented by the solid oak flooring and carefully selected feature pieces of furniture, a well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, and hob, microwave, washing machine and coffee machine. There is also free WIFI throughout. The owners provide a superb welcome pack with fresh bread, biscuits, home-made jam, cereal, milk butter and wine!

The cottage sleeps four in comfort and has an upside-down layout with the bedrooms downstairs. Both are en-suite with fantastic drench showers, (one also has a bath) and ultra-comfy beds with Egyptian cotton bed linen. There is also a charming sun terrace and outdoor eating area with BBQ.

Upstairs we find an open-plan lounge and kitchen and a comfy sofa, large TV, DVD and iPod dock, wood-burning stove and views across the delightful courtyard and the Fife countryside. Despite being only a short drive to the Tay Bridge, the location feels very rural making the cottage the perfect place to unwind.

The main and older part of Sandford House is a rare example of Mackay Hugh Baille Scott’s architecture in Scotland, dating from around 1902.

The refurbishment from a semi-derelict hotel was subject of a television programme Restoration Home featuring Caroline Quentin. The Art and Crafts style of the house is delightful and the history is fascinating. The owners will be pleased to arrange a guided tour of the house.

Baillie Scott Cottage luxury house is an Art and Crafts inspired 5 star cottage with an exceptional location within Sandford House. Built around a courtyard with its original arts and crafts tiled well, the setting is peaceful and the perfect place to retreat to after a day exploring the beaches of Fife, golfing or shopping in Dundee.

Perfect Days

Take a trip to nearby Tentsmuir beach and enjoy a walk in the pine trees, nature reserve and the huge sandy beach. Don’t forget your bucket and spade.

Explore nearby St Andrews (10 miles) and enjoy some golf or even some putting on the legendary Himalayas course.

Visit nearby Dundee, only 10 mins across the Tay Bridge. Explore the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre or Captain Scott’s famous Antarctic expedition ship at the award-winning Discovery Point Visitor Centre. There is great shopping too.

If the weather is poor, try out the flumes and slides at the brand new Olympia swimming pools in Dundee – the kids will love it!

In the summer why not go Puffin spotting on a boat trip to the beautiful Isle of May? It’s great fun.

Go for a potter in nearby Newport-on-Tay. A quaint village with a small high street. There are some nice shops, an art gallery, several cafes and fab fish and chips at the Silvery Tay.

There are plenty of good local walks in the delightful Fife countryside; ask Evelyn for some recommended routes.
