An Lionadh Easdale Island

An Lionadh Easdale Island

Unique four bedroom holiday house next to the stony beach with incredible sea views on the wonderful island of Easdale. A real one off and the ideal base for a family holiday on the West Coast.

Incredible sea views

The first thing that will wow you when heading to this holiday home on Easdale Island is the journey to get to it – you have to leave your car in the car park at Ellenabeich village, then get a wee (ferry) speedboat over to the island. This quirky means of transportation is only the beginning of a very special getaway.

Walking across the small island to An Lionadh house, you instantly get a close-knit community vibe; everyone you come across is really friendly, and the area is charmingly quaint, with only around 60 houses on the island.

Home-from-home

An Lionadh house is deceptively large – the pictures don’t do it justice! It is absolutely a home-from-home; it’s equipped with everything you could possibly need for a family stay, including herbs and spices, all kinds of kitchen appliances, books in practically every room of the house, binoculars to spot the exciting wildlife on the island, a shelf of board games, and even a piano and guitar for the musically inclined. There’s also surprisingly speedy Wi-Fi, and a TV in the living room with a huge selection of DVDs in the unit underneath.

There are 4 bedrooms in the house, sleeping 8 people – two doubles, a twin, and a room with a bunk bed (bottom bed is a double) which also has an en-suite toilet. The bathroom downstairs is sizeable, with a big bath and a heated towel rail. There is also the very handy laundry room, with a washing machine and tumble dryer.

For long lazy lunches and dinners outdoors in the summer, there is a patio area with a dining table and gorgeous views.

Rustic charm and personal touches

The decor of the house is homely, with a rustic charm and personal touches from the owners, which makes it feel comfortable and ‘lived-in’. Luckily there are a huge number of windows, too, so you can properly take in the stunning sea views from every angle.

The dining area offers one of the best views, which are almost-panoramic around two sides of the dining table. The large living space, with a variety of comfy sofas, armchairs and seats, has windows on three of the four walls. One thing you’ll notice is that one of the windows in the master bedroom upstairs doesn’t have curtains, but you’ll soon realise why when you take a proper look at sunset when you arrive, or wake up at sunrise if you’ve arrived in the dark – the view across the Atlantic Ocean and the other islands nearby is breathtakingly beautiful.

Charming holiday house packed with character

It’s the perfect place to relax by the log-burner in the kitchen/dining room and sit around the table with wine or hot toddies and chat the night away, or put the fire on in the living room and spend the morning sitting on one of the deep window ledges with coffee and the binoculars observing the local wildlife

The no car island of Easdale is located 16 miles south of the busy port of Oban, yet it feels a million miles away.  The island is small, so the beach is literally a stone’s throw away from the patio area outside the house. The stoney shoreline makes for a fun base for exploring the afternoon away, especially for families with children – the beach is covered in the famous Easdale Slate (the island used to be a main provider for the Scottish mining industry) which sparkles with Fool’s gold. There are also lots of rock pools, and craggy areas where if you stand still and quiet, you might spot an otter or even some more exciting wildlife further out into the ocean.

For a unique, relaxing holiday which also has options nearby for action-packed days, look no further than An Lionadh. A charming holiday house packed with character and unforgettable views. Easdale is truly a special place, and one you’ll want to return to as soon as you’ve left.

Perfect Days

The island itself is the perfect, tranquil setting for a remote escape – there are no shops, streetlights or cars. However, there is a lovely pub called The Puffer which serves up beer and local ales, and excellent food at certain times of the year. The adjoining tearoom is open during the day for lunches, home-baked treats, and premium tea and coffee.

The Easdale Island Community Hall close by holds concerts and events and serves as an arts centre, and there’s also the Folk Museum with its interesting displays of local history.

Most interestingly (arguably), the island plays host to the World Stone Skimming Championships every September, which pulls in an increasing crowd year after year.

Even though the island is remote, it’s a great base for exploring the area nearby. Oban is around 30 minutes drive away, go for a distillery tour or enjoy lunch in the seafood capital of Scotland.

Locally, you can catch a Seafari from Easdale and explore the fascinating marine life, and there’s a slate museum in Ellenabeich, as well as a great bar and restaurant called The Oyster Bar.
