Cairnsmore Stable self-catering cottage is a beautifully converted, rustic & secluded cottage on the Cairnsmore Estate in Dumfries and Galloway. It forms part of the old stable block and is full of character and ideal for couples looking for a romantic break.

A cracking wee cottage, an ideal romantic escape for two. With underfloor heated stone floors & a wood burning stove framed by a magnificent elm surround, it’s the perfect place to curl up.

Better still, all of the heating & hot water comes from the cottage’s own 100m deep geothermal bore hole!

Full of character

The cottage is packed full of character and offers good facilities. There is a cosy living room with wood burner, flat-screen TV, DVD player & CD player.

A well equipped oak kitchen/diner offers a belfast sink, oven, hob, fridge, microwave, washing machine & sheila’s maid for drying. There two bedrooms, a double with a king size bed and a compact twin.

There is a small enclosed back garden making it perfect for dog owners & a perfect spot for BBQs. An open garage with secure eyebolt and padlock is available for storage of bikes and an adjacent outside tap & hose is handy for cleaning off after a day on the dirt.

The friendly and helpful owners live across the stable yard & whilst not intrusive are happy to give advice of where to go & things to do with their wealth of local knowledge. As experienced walkers, the owners have thoughtfully provided a number of walking route descriptions for all abilities.

The Cairnsmore Estate is on the edge of the Galloway Forest Park & the Cairnsmore National Nature Reserve offering no end of opportunities for walking, wildlife viewing & mountain biking.

Perfect Days

Walk in the Galloway Hills. As a highlight, walk straight from the stable yard onto the Cairnsmore of Fleet with is magnificent views which, on a good day, extend across the sea to Ireland, across the Solway Firth to the Lake District & across the whole Galloway Range.

Get off-road at the Glen Trool & Kirroughtree mountain biking areas. Part of the 7 Stanes network they provide excellent facilities & a huge area trails for all abilities.

Follow the Kite Route around various viewpoints & visit the feeding station at Bellymack Hill Farm at feeding time for a close up view.

Stock up with local goodies from the smoke houses at Carsluith, farm made cheeses, micro-brewed ales or whisky from Scotland’s most southern distillary.

Roam the Nature Reserve to see curlew, red grouse, black grouse, merlin, red kite, perigrine falcon, hen harrier. You may even see the odd Golden Eagle if you get lucky!

Sit in the lounge’s window seat and watch the wood peckers & red squirrels feed
