Cow Shed Two
Unique luxury cottage for two in Highland Perthshire. Unusual holiday house, perfect for couples and a brilliant base for exploring Perthshire
The Cow Shed Two, despite its name, is a real one off! Although run according to the same exacting standards as the original Cow Shed (One) holiday cottage, this quirky and luxurious self-catering conversion for two looks quite different to its older sibling.
‘Unique luxury cottage for two’
It has been developed using sustainable building techniques and features recycled pallet-wood walls, a hessian-clad ceiling, an internal clay-plastered, straw-bale wall (with truth window), as well as a fitted kitchen made almost entirely of recycled pallet wood! Although rustic in appearance, the experience is definitely high end. It’s perfect for couples and makes a brilliant base for exploring Highland Perthshire and Big Tree Country.
Building on the success of the original Cow Shed holiday cottage, this stylish one-bedroom conversion of a former cow byre takes upcycling and sustainable building to new heights. Steve, the owner, is passionate about the conversion and his customers’ experience, and it shows.
‘Luxury Bolthole full of quirky Touches’
Cow Shed Two is packed full of character, with comfort and sustainable style reflected throughout. The unusual pallet-wood clad walls and furniture really complement the quality interiors. Although made from pallet wood and cast concrete, the open-plan kitchen has all the appliances one would expect, and looks great too boot.
The living area has comfy sofas, more unique pallet wood furniture and a toasty woodburning stove, although we didn’t really need it as there is underfloor heating throughout. It’s a great place to relax, with free Wi-Fi (fair use policy), HD Freesat TV, Blu-Ray player and a library of films, and a mini hifi sound system.
The generous locally sourced welcome pack includes fantastic freshly baked scones and bread from the nearby Blair Atholl Watermill, and honey from the local bee keeper.
The good sized bedroom has a very comfortable super-kingsize bed (splits into twins), and ensuite bathroom with powerful walk-in shower. Cowshed Two boasts quality soft furnishings and lovely artwork throughout; the owner’s attention to detail is second to none.
The accommodation is located on farmland overlooking Killiecrankie Battlefield with stunning hill views. It’s a secluded, peaceful setting, yet only a short drive from Blair Atholl, Pitlochry and the A9. Outside there is delightful garden courtyard area with seating, and some lovely raised beds full of herb plants and flowers.
This is excellent walking country, ranging from short walks starting outside the door to high-level hillwalking. The friendly and helpful owners are keen walkers and have provided loads of information, such as maps of local walks and details of activities. Or just ask them for some advice, which they will be delighted to provide.
