Forest Cottage
Forest Cottage is a cosy luxury hideaway for two set in the forest next to magical Loch an Eilein, on the Rothiemurchus Estate, just outside Aviemore.
Cosy luxury hideaway
Sometimes we come across really special, exceptional places and this is one of them. This delightful cottage is set amongst the pine trees, with its red roof and is simply enchanting. It was previously occupied by the families of forest workers, but has been sympathetically restored in to a wonderful holiday house packed full of character and top facilities.
The stylish and yet simple interiors are totally in keeping with the history of the cottage and the wonderful natural landscapes of the forest.
Located in the Cairngorms National Park there is a wealth of activities and fabulous attractions close at hand.
Generous welcome pack
The owners seem of have thought of everything to make our stay special. There was a generous welcome pack with chocolates, wine, local beers, delicious shortbread, hot chocolate, marshmallows and jam and pickle from Huntly Herbs as well as fresh milk in the fridge.
Sublime Interiors
In the heart of the cottage is the lounge. A double height room dominated by the huge hearth and cosy woodburner (with plenty of logs provided). The interiors are sublime with wonderful hand printed wallpapers and stylish furnishings.
It’s the perfect place to relax by the fire with a book, mug of hot chocolate or even a dram in hand. The cottage boasts a great selection of books, as well as useful local maps and extensive guidebooks and cosy wee window seat. There’s also a cleverly hidden flat screen TV with some DVDs and Bluetooth speaker for your tunes.
Superb kitchen with dining table
Located in the new wooden extension is a superb kitchen with dining table. This simple traditionally designed kitchen with Raeburn cooker, hides a wealth of state-of-the-art appliances including dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine, coffee machine with pods provided and our favourite, the wine fridge!
Also on the ground floor, the master bedroom is a brilliant space complete with lovely interiors and super-king and super comfy bed. In fact, one of the best beds we’ve slept in.The luxury bathroom boasts top of the range facilities, superb rain shower, whirlpool bath and even a flatscreen TV above the bath! There is also a selection of lovely soaps from The Highland Soap Company as well as fluffy robes.
We loved the quirky layout of the cottage and upstairs up the narrow staircase is a super cute twin bedroom, which might be useful a couple with a young family.
The location of the cottage in the forest is stunning, with only a short walk to the breath-taking views across Loch an Eilein to the mighty Cairngorm peaks. There’s also good-sized enclosed garden area beneath the trees, with table and chairs to enjoy in good weather. You can watch the cheeky red squirrels feast on the nuts on the feeders.
Forest Cottage is a wonderful, cosy hideaway set amongst some of the finest natural landscapes in Scotland. Full of character and charm with modern self-catering facilities, it’s an exceptional holiday house.
