Packed full of character, retaining many original features its a wonderful place to stay for a holiday on Orkney. As its only a short drive from either Kirkwall or Stromness, it makes Puffin Quoy a great base for exploring the many delights of Orkney.

Original Features

The Cottage retains many of its original features, including lovely stone walls, wooden beams and stone flagged floors. These period features are combined with state-of-the-art facilities, such as underfloor heating via an air source heat pump, wet rooms and a whirl pool bath. Free Wi fi throughout means you can keep in touch with the mainland!

The lounge has a flat screen TV and DVD player and a nice sound system  for your own tunes! The cottage is furnished to the highest standard with really comfy sofas and armchairs and some lovely antique furniture. If you just want to relax, there is a good selection of books and magazines.

The accommodation includes a large lounge with deep, comfy sofas, a log burning stove, dining area and fabulous sea views. There is also a well-equipped kitchen for some home cooked meals after a day out exploring this magical place.

Relaxing Lounge

One of the highlights of this charming holiday house is the lounge with wood burning stove and well equipped kitchen with sea views out across Scapa Flow and over to the islands of Flotta, Hoy and the Barrel of Butter!

There is a super comfy king-size bedroom, with fantastic garden and sea views, has an en-suite wet room featuring a shower and whirlpool bath with mood lighting.Luxury Orkney soaps are provided throughout!

Lots of space

Outside you’ll find a patio area with amazing dry stone walls built by Kevin the owner, a dining table, perfect for enjoying dinner or a drink in the sun. The owners, who have very green fingers, have a wonderful garden next door which you are welcome to explore.

The friendly owners obviously have flair for design, whether it be in the conversion of these historic barns, the interiors, or in their wonderful garden. This is a delightful luxurious and well-equipped holiday house packed full of character and an ideal base for couples or groups of friends exploring Orkney.

Perfect Days

The cottage is a great base for exploring the range of amazing historical sites like Maes Howe chambered tomb, complete with Viking graffiti, the Ring of Brodgar standing stones and stunning Broch of Gurness.

A trip to Orkney must include a trip to the incredible Skara Brae prehistoric village, the best example of its type in Europe. It also boasts a fantastic visitor centre and a nice wee café. The local cheese platter is highly recommended.

Head south over the Churchill Barriers and visit the Italian chapel made by Italian POWs during WWII and then visit the incredible Tomb of the Eagles.

Go for a wander around Kirkwall town: see the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral and Orkney museum or explore some of the independent shops, cafes and restaurants on the High Street.

Take a trip to the dramatic cliff-top tidal island of Brough of Birsay. This was once the ancient Oradian seat of power. Check the tides to ensure a safe time for crossing!

Head to Jolly’s in Kirkwall (an unlikely location on the industrial estate) and pick up some goodies, like fresh seafood, salmon or scallops and local cheeses
