Summer Howf

Summer Howf

An amazing Luxury cabin for couples in Perthshire. Enjoy a few nights in the secret garden! Nestled among trees and near the wee burn, the charming Summer Howf offers a unique experience and is perfect for couples looking for a secret escape.

A rare but glorious summer evening found us cycling to the Summer Howf, Craighead along winding Perthshire roads. Set in a mature, well-kept garden the Summer Howf is a beautiful, peaceful spot far from the bustle of life.

Unlike many more regular glamping sites this private, secluded and tastefully renovated summer house provides clean and crisp accommodation with the feel of camping but none of the canvas inconveniences or requirement to pack bedding, cooking equipment or even a tea towel!

A great base to enjoy the surrounding Perthshire villages, towns and historic sites or cycle the quiet, often single track roads and take in the scenery.

Or do nothing and appreciate the garden birds busy on feeders, the soothing noise of the stream flowing past the Howf or the gentle bustle of assorted fowl including ducks and rhea going about their feathered business. Be mindful though that the rooster will remind you to be up and not waste your day!

While the Summer Howf provides a cosy double bed, fun wood burner, table and chairs and comfy seats by the stove, it is not overly cluttered and uses wall space and window ledges cleverly to store all the crockery, visitor book, bird book, complementary hot chocolate and shortbread and jars with candles that give a lovely ambience as evening falls.

It boasts a wonderful star gazing window in the bed nook which is perfect for the clear nights!

There are electric sockets for any charging needs and a main electric light. Outside there is a convenient tap and an unobtrusive canopy over a camp stove that sits above all the pots and pans you might require.

In fine weather a picnic table allows al fresco eating and a fire pit surrounded with a natural stone wall has chunky wooden benches so the BBQ chef can rest easy too.

At first thought a trek to the Wash Howf (wash house) would be a nuisance but this is a much more pleasant experience than most toilet facilities.

It is a stroll down the garden through the honesty shop, handy for any of those little things (chocolate and marshmallows) you may have forgotten, to the toilet and shower with adjoining room complete with sofa and tourist information to browse.

The Summer Howf is a great experience, somehow combining the freedom and fresh air of camping with the convenience of four walls and daily living requirements without too much planning.

A wonderful way to enjoy some private time, recuperate or just relax and unwind and take stock of the important things in life.
