Vetlanda Luxury Holiday Cottage is a superb wooden-built detached house in The Cairngorms National Park. A cracking holiday house offering top quality self-catering accommodation in the small Highland village of Newtonmore only 15 miles from Aviemore.

It’s located near the train station, which means you can even arrive from London on the Sleeper!

It’s nicely decorated with some lovely wooden furniture and floors. The original owners run a sawmill and the use of high quality timbers is clear to see.

Open Plan Living Area

There is an open plan living area with well-equipped kitchen, dining area and cosy sitting area with woodburning stove and sofabed. There was a homemade welcome cake and milk in the fridge when we arrived, which was a nice touch. And a big toy box is always a plus for a family!

It’s a great base for exploring The Cairngorms National Park. Wintersports and hillwalking on Cairngorm can easily be accessed (30 mins’ drive), as well as good walks, mountain biking and pony trekking locally.

Perfect Days

History is brought alive at the fascinating Highland Folk Museum. Highlights include vintage bus rides, a Blackhouse, traditional sweety shop, water-powered sawmill and a reconstruction of a working croft.

Sailing at the nearby Lochinsh Watersports; you can also hire a canoe and take a trip down the Spey to Aviemore.
Enjoy a picnic overlooking the atmospheric Ruthven Barracks with some superb fish and chips from Happy Days in Kinguissie.

Explore the Wildcat Trail, a popular circular walk around the edge of the village, taking in the River Spey with woodland, moorland and views across the valley to the mighty Cairngorms.

Take the kids to the nearby Highland Wildlife Park to see Mercedes the Polar Bear!
