Westwood Luxury Glamping
Westwood Luxury glamping cabin with outdoor deck, swing and unique fire-pit set in a tranquil wildlife filled neuk in rural Aberdeenshire.
This space age Armadilla (think Thames Barrier) is a true tardis providing more than ample space for a couple to feel that they don’t need to be (too) friendly all of the time! Every space has a well thought out use and the high roof, large windows and white cladding make for an airy and bright environment. The en-suite toilet and shower room are a very welcome improvement on the typical camping experience.
The high quality ipod dock, TV, underfloor heating and mood lighting allow for a quiet night in should the weather not be conducive to an evening under the stars. That said, the outdoor environment is really the star of the show here. Set in a fabulous garden glen, the unique firepit gives a fabulous opportunity to act all Bear Grylls whilst having the ability to retreat under the deck should the odd shower appear. In the morning and evening the skies are alive with birdlife.
Martins, swallows, tits, ducks and woodpeckers are all regular visitors to the local pond and burn and tempted us to dust off our cameras and binoculars to twitch away the time.
There is only one pod on the site which makes it the perfect place for quiet break away to recharge the batteries, no need to compromise with other people, children or pets. May was a little early to try the outdoor shower, but it is discreetly placed and could be just the ticket on a balmy evening. We were happy with the indoor version!
Strichen is less than 10 minutes walk and has a couple of pubs with food, a local store, and of course the excellent lodge cafe at the Strichen Community Park.
It is not possible to write a review without mentioning our wonderful hosts, Katrina and John. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made us feel completely at home, sharing local insights, advice, logs and even the occasional pancake for good measure. John’s life as a craftsman is evident around the deck and garden with well thought out and subtle features.
